Svet Mira is a name formed by an English transliteration of the Russian “Свет Мира”, meaning “Light of the World”. In the Jewish scriptures and the Christian Old Testament, forms of this title are used in reference to God: in the 27th chapter of his book, the Psalmist proclaims that “the Lord is my light and my Salvation”, for example; again, in chapter 60 of his, Isaiah prophesizes that “the Lord shall be your light forever.”
In the New Testament, Jesus of Nazareth fulfills this prophecy. On the occasion of His dedication in the Temple, Simeon the Prophet declares Mary’s son to be “a light for revelation to the Gentiles” (Luke 2:32). When the time came for His public ministry, on the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus declares of Himself: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Svet Mira is a concept for a design firm. The name, then, is meant to speak to the goal which pervades and directs all of my own work: to illuminate some part of the glory of the King and Light of the World, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
